The GUNAA Board of Directors (GUNAA BOD) held its first retreat last week, led by President Thomas Jones. The goals of the retreat were to further develop GUNAA’s National platform while strengthening its bond with Chapters, Regional Representatives and GUNAA National Committees. The GUNAA BOD developed the 2021 GUNAA Strategic Plan which focuses on four key priorities: 1. Support Increased Alumni Giving to GSU & GUNAA,INC. 2. Connect Alumni with Grambling State University and Each Other 3. Support a Strong Alumni Association 4. Cultivate Students and Young Alumni to Serve Grambling State University
The GUNAA BOD’s guest speaker was Grambling State University’s fellow alumnae, Dr. Jessica Elmore, Associate Director of Diversity Programs for Kansas State Alumni Association. Dr. Elmore presented and provided anecdotes on how to further develop relationships with the university as an affiliate member and tidbits on how to manage and increase GUNAA’s endowments. During the retreat, Chapter Presidents and Regional Representatives received dynamic presentations from 10 GUNAA Committees which featured the launch of the GUNAA 1901 Club, a new fundraising initiative to increase membership and create funds in three key areas: 1. Scholarships 2. Campus Revitalization Projects 3. Operational Enhancements Our last presentation was of the retreat was presented by the GUNAA’s Parliamentarian, Veronica Johnson. Mrs. Johnson presented, “Let’s Talk Parliamentary Procedures” which gave helpful tidbits tools to our leaders.
President Jones stated, “It is very important for all entities of GUNAA to unite to build a solid national alumni association to assist the needs of our college home, Grambling State University.”
